About the range

The Sills Air Range began in 1994 as a public youth shooting outreach program — a seven-lane range in a three-stall garage. A 26-lane expansion, started in 2014 and finished in 2015 in time for the World Police and Fire Games held in Fairfax County, made it the home range for seven high school air rifle teams and the chapter’s junior programs.

The range has its own website with practice schedules and details: afc-iwla-sillsairrange.org. Hours and open practice windows are also on the chapter calendar (facility code AR).

Who uses the range

  • High school air rifle teams in the Potomac High School Rifle League — Centreville, Fairfax, Lake Braddock, Robinson, West Springfield, and Woodson high schools, plus the independent Mavericks.
  • NoVA Sharpshooters junior pistol and Paralympic junior air rifle programs (see Youth Programs). Participants pay the Sills Air Range consumables fee and join the Junior Chapter.
  • Open practice and adult air pistol league sessions, and adaptive shooting sessions — times are on the calendar.
  • Periodic hosted matches, such as the Wendel Thompson Memorial Precision Air Rifle/Pistol Match co-sponsored by the Junior Chapter.
